The MHRA has no business on our turf - we are not in the system they regulate for

If you listen to this video,(sorry won't let me embed) you will wonder how the MHRA can pronounce on electronic cigarettes at all. They are not in their remit as they regulate on medical products. E-cigs are not medical products.

If they want some electronic cigarettes as medical devices, it's an affirmation that they know they work. What a compliment. But they need to back off the consumer product that is already out there. Vapers are not patients to be protected, nor are we ill. We are not even in the medical system they regulate for. The MHRA have no business on our turf.

Watch the numbers - we're being screwed!

On Saturday I blogged that the MHRA video has had 2500+ views and there were 300+ responses. There were actually 307 responses. Now - Monday evening - there are 3246 views and only 339 responses, which means, despite my blog which HUNDREDS of people read, it only increased by 32 responses. Now, on that Saturday night I too posted on the video - if I count from that first response (easy to see as I'm the one with the bright red cardigan) there are many more than 32 responses!

Something really stinks!

This is my public record for the situation on this day, Monday 24th June 2013

3246 views and only 339 responses

MHRA Mr Mean video - a request to vapers - please distribute - thnx.

Is the video that the MHRA put up on the Internet with Mr Mean discussing the new MHRA pronouncement a ploy to unofficially get responses from vapers? So far 2500+- people have watched it and over 300 protest posts by vapers have been made. I can't find a single post that congratulates the MHRA on its forward thinking!

Of their 23 videos about various subjects that don't concern us, this one has had the most views and a huge amount of response. The responses are from us vapers. We need to be polite, otherwise we show ourselves to be uncouth and foul mouthed. I am sure there are many uncouth and foulmouthed vapers, but they are not the ones we should want to offer our message to Mr Mean or the MHRA.

There are just over 300 responses now, some are repeats by the same people, or spams by the uncouth. I don't think that's enough! We need polite suggestions and information on the benefits of leaving vaping unmedicalised - or a two tier system that might give the MHRA a way to get out of their very foolish suggestion. Or requests asking how much licences might cost. Or simply self vaping sucess stories.Or requests to re-think. Or reminders of how suspicious it looks to ordinary people that five of the MHRA committee are directly involved with big phama.  Or topics that cover the fact that the electrnic cigarettes studied in 2009 that their decision rests  on, are now antideluvian in design. That vaping is currently covered by consumer products legislation. Or any other polite information about our devices and vaping.

One could call it a response bomb request. Please send this request around or RT.

For those serious protestors, here is Mr Mean's address.

Please be polite for **** sake!

Response to Rebecca Taylor's Blog "Good news for e-cigarettes, bad news for tobacco control.

Thank you so very much for all your hard work on behalf of vapers. Many hundreds? thousands? will not post their thanks here as they won't be the "posting" type. But they too thank you.

Out of the terrible persecution of smokers, illogical legislation (like banning outdoor smoking), and legislation that has crippled whole sections of the population and the economy, comes a most amazing piece of technology - electronic cigarettes.  They are a stunningly successful offering to smokers in their gravest hour. They could actually produce the results tobacco control has been so desperate to have - the ending of Big Tobacco's grip on society and the eradication of smoking.

So it seems bizarre to me that they must be legislated against at all. They are neither tobacco nor medicines. They are simply a smoker's solution to tobacco control's own vindictiveness against them.

I smoked for 50 years and the worse I was discriminated against, the more I refused to quit. I was a hardened, angry smoker.  Almost overnight, vaping transformed me into a "non-smoker" - a non-smoking vaper. It has been THE one important action of my life. Every day I try to do something to spread the word to other people because it has been so important to me.

So, as an angry ex-smoker, I am appalled that this most important thing, might be taken away from people who really need it as it is now. NOW vaping is life transforming. It should be allowed to grow, innovate and develop.

If tobacco control squeeze the life out of it, they will be doing their own cause serious damage.

I prefer vaping to smoking, but I am not willing to be legislated out of existence again.

So although "good news for e-cigs" and not for tobacco control, sounds optimistic, I think that any interference by them AT ALL would be the most foolish thing they could do in their long history against smokers. E-cigarettes are neither tobacco nor medicine and tobacco control should have no influence on them. They should not be concerned. They should be delighted that smokers have found their own solution to smoking.

Thank you again for your work on our behalf.

Stuff them!

Haven't blogged for a while - getting over the shock of the MHRA pronouncement that vaping products are to be medicalised (i.e controlled and profited from).

The mind boggles.

For me, personally, I have a Precise mechanical mod, I mix my own e-liquid and I wind my own coils. I will stock up on Base VG Nicotine in glass bottles and also on my favourite tanks. Nicotine for mixing will store in the freezer for a while - I get confusing answers to this -  months -10 years to 15 years?? In 10 years I might have snuffed it. I will rely on the knowledge that there will be a robust black market setting up in three years when vaping is under the firm control of Big Parma. And I will be buying!

Us older and experienced vapers will produce underground literature and videos to instruct smokers who have changed to medicalised vaping, on how to increase their pleasure by introducing them to the Black Market and teaching them all the tips on doing-it-themselves vaping which we will be practising. My videos will not be praising vaping anymore, but providing historical reference to how nice it used to be when vaping was a successful and exciting way to stop smoking. And how it has deteriorated into a shadow of its former self via over-regulation.

The internet will be full of information instructing people on how to access everything they need, one way or the other, for a proper vaping experience. Lawyers will become experienced in dealing with the law and illegal vaping. And smokers will go on smoking because the medical devices will be so poor in experience, so old-fashioned in design, that they won't be worth the bother except to chuck them away because they got them from the National Health Service free.

By then, technology will offer us serious vapers devices that look nothing like cigarettes, that are so small they cup in the hand and that do not emit vapour. At home and where it is legal to vape, we would use the devices we love - but on going out, we will use our vapourless, odourless "Nic-e-Nics" and no one will ever know we are vaping! We would be invisible, unstoppable and unbannable!

Where there is a will, there's a way.  Do I think vaping as we know it is stuffed? Naaa.

It's THEM that's stuffed.

ROK Stogie

I had such fun using this disposable cigar. It's really nice - only 1.6% nic, so it doesn't give a massive throat hit, but 1.6% is the strength I vape.

I think it would be a nice gift.

Oh hell

Haven't blogged for ages. Too disgruntled to do so. And that applies to my other blog too.

We have plain packs coming into Ireland and France bans e cigs in public places. (please vote) And Scotland bans smoking in cars with kids. And god knows what else I don't know about.

The anti smokers are OUR problem too - not just a smokers problem. I think smokers have been very badly persecuted in general. Smokers have been trying to modulate the attack on them for years. and if they had been successful, this anti-vaping push would not be happening. If proper ventilated smoking rooms had been provided for smokers, and smokers had been seen to have the right to persue their habit - somewhere - then vaping in public would be no issue now.

Many lies, twististics and crap is still offered to us by The Anti Tobacco Industry about smoking. If smokers try to expose them, they are "fronts for the tobacco industry". In the ENVI podcast, on Thursday, it was suggested at one point that the intense lobby from vapers, was a "front for big tobacco" seeing they were now entering the electronic cigarette market. They came for the smokers. Why did we think we vapers would be different?

The tide of anti-smoking busy bodies who pollute truth and muddy facts for their own batty ends - to rid the world of smoking (and that includes anything that LOOKS like smoking) seems so ugly and filthy, and so unstoppable, I have temporarily lost heart.

Thank goodness for people fighting the vaping cause.
